SmartCitizen floating on cloud 9! (or 6…)
13 Feb 2015
SmartCitizen are delighted to announce that we are now an accredited G-Cloud 6 supplier with our successful bid to have our SmartConnect software included in the latest G-Cloud framework.
G-Cloud is a set of frameworks for the public sector to buy cloud-based services through a Digital Marketplace. Launched in 2012, G-Cloud’s structured marketplace offers a flexible and speedy route for buyers to access suppliers with the right digital capabilities to help them produce public services.
It has been a resounding success so far and provided businesses of every size an equal opportunity to offer commodity cloud services to government. Not only has it created a transparent and competitive market, opening up barriers to entry for small and medium-size businesses, but in conjunction with the 2014 Cloud First policy, whereby central government must purchase IT services through the cloud unless it can be proven that an alternative is more cost effective, it has also helped to promote business growth and enabled more organisations to work with government.
G-Cloud 6 went live on 2nd February 2015 with 1852 suppliers and 19,966 services available. This means that public sector buyers are now able to search for and commission cloud services from G-Cloud 6 suppliers, including SmartCitizen. Hopefully, this will help to maximise opportunities for SmartCitizen and offer us better visibility on the UK market place. In December 2014, 57% of total sales by volume from all reported G-Cloud sales to date had been awarded to SMEs so we are excited to see what this new opening may bring.
